Hitchin Beer & Cider Festival GOES WENT VIRTUAL!

On 4th to 6th June we planned to be hosting the 2020 HITCHIN BEER & CIDER FESTIVAL at HITCHIN RUGBY CLUB with HITCHIN ROUND TABLE

Instead we invited you to ‘FESTIVAL’ at home as well as join in some fun activities with us and your friends.

REAL ALE & CIDER and, in some cases food, were available from our PARTNER pubs and breweries. Go to our DEDICATED PAGE for the ordering links, these are still relevant ongoing.

We and our Partners offered PRIZES* for answering TRIVIA questions each day. Thursday/Friday prize-winners were announced that very evening/overnight. One winner even collected his 8 pints winnings and was pictured on Facebook and Instagram happily holding them!

Instagram was the main fun platform for this virtual event, especially for quizzes for prizes.

There was a Tiebreaker in the event the top 3 couldn’t be decided by results; the best comments would decide it. We asked, cross-media:
WHAT’VE YOU MISSED MOST ABOUT PUBS!
In the end, we didn’t need the tie-break, but some great comments have been coming in. Please continue to share your comments here and with your friends on social media so we can all see what you think.

More than 20,000 people visited our website, Facebook and Instagram in the week before and during the Festival. Were you one of them? If so please…

You shared YOUR pictures and videos of previous beer festivals and THIS year’s virtual festival, showing how you celebrated in your garden or home, using the HASHTAG #CamraHitchinVirtualFestival

  • Just been told I won a prize for this week’s virtual Real ale festival. Thank you so much much appreciated

  • I seem to have won a voucher for Garden City Brewery – how exciting! Great interactive quiz & fantastic to see that so many people joined in! Well done!

The things that I have missed about pubs most would be; the humming sound of chit chat with the occasional bursts of laughter amongst friends, the tangible emotion in the air during a big sports game, watching the barman intently as he pulls the perfect pint, savouring that first sip of beer after a long week at work, the comfort of seeing familiar faces (even if you’ve never spoken), trying new beers, discovering local breweries and enjoying good old fashioned pub grub!

  • Just won a 10litre beer from buntingford brewery! Thank you for the virtual quiz! I’ve missed most about the pubs are 3 things, good food, trying different beers and drinking with friends in a lovely beer garden!

  • Alan Southgate, one of our Festival Quiz Prize Winners, asked me to post this:-

“What I am missing most about pubs not being open:-

Clinking glasses together and saying “Cheers” when a new round has been bought. It highlights both the social camaraderie of being at ease with your friends in your local, and also the unbeatable look and flavour of a fresh, well kept, pint of real ale. It just can’t feel the same after pouring a glass from a bottle or can at home with your partner or family. I can’t wait to get that next round in!”

    • Cheers, Alan, couldn’t have put it better myself!

And good on you for persevering with the quizzes, when you were battling the social media, by sending your answers via email. Belt and braces…can’t beat ’em!
