CAMRA Mild Month Campaign

Every year CAMRA promotes May as Mild month with the aim of reviving this lesser known style of beer, and this year is no exception! CAMRA is encouraging pubs to try and have at least one mild on during the month of May.

What is Mild?

Originating from the late 1700’s, Mild is a slightly sweeter, less hoppy version of the Porters at that time and were considerably stronger than the Mild’s you can generally find today, which tend to be in the region of 3 to 3.5%.

Mild’s are most commonly seen as a dark brown malty beer with hints of dark fruit, chocolate, coffee and caramel, with a gentle hop bitterness, but there are examples such as McMullin’s AK which are lighter in colour.
